I’m not sure what reaction I was expecting with the release of JUST QUIETLY in New Zealand other than mild morbid curiosity, However, while it’s very early days, the interest in the few weeks since the CD was sent to media has been encouraging. I’m even getting some airplay for tracks off the CD, which is a pleasant surprise. Whether this will sustain after the initial curious stage remains to be seen. I’m scheduled to do the rounds of the media talkfest in NZ late July and things may crank up a bit then. Not looking forward to my TV appearances though; they say Tv adds 20 pounds and I need to lose twice that much. A Heroin chic rock star I ain’t!
Regardless, I’ll do my best to talk up the album and try to respond to the inevitable ‘Where have you been, what have you been up to?’ questions with candour and wit.
I’ve been beavering away at a whole bunch of new songs and thinking about playing live again in a ‘busker-like’ fashion. i.e. Just me and my guitar. I kind of like the thought of performing intimately and unadorned in this way – like a songwriter at work rather than a star on stage. Playing to smaller audiences and interacting with them. Not sure if my guitar playing is up to it, nor am I sure anyone will pay to watch a guy strumming his guitar in this day and age, but there’s only one way to find out I guess. Time will tell if I persist with this line of thinking or the madness passes.
