Short Stories (1988)

Although he’d officially retired as an artist, this album was recorded at the urging of John’s song publishing company. In a sense it’s a series of glorified demos. The production is bright with the lead vocals buried in the way that was fashionable in the 1980s. The songs, however, were strong and some like: Along the Way, Don’t it Ever Get You Down and Romantically Inclined received significant airplay upon release. This album would have been far more successful had it not been released on vinyl just as the world was turning to CDs. Good record, bad timing.
